It is no secret that marijuana has been used as a tool to help relieve pain dating as far back as 2900 B.C. Recently, scientists have found that other components of marijuana, such as CBD, could also be used to treat pain, without the necessity to get high because of the THC in the process.
CBD oil can help reduce chronic pain in most people by impacting the body’s inner endocannabinoid system. Interacting with this system can help reduce inflammation and interact with the neurotransmitters that are responsible for telling the brain you are in pain in the first place.
What science backs this up?
Well, for starters, there was one study that was conducted and published which found CBD oil deriving from cannabis could be used as a therapeutic agent for chronic inflammatory and neuropathic pain. A second study found that when people were given Sativex, an oral spray combining both THC and CBD, it could help reduce spinal excitability, help alleviate symptoms and could cause an improvement in spasticity.
CBD, if used with the psychoactive component THC, can be an effective treatment for pain reduction, especially if pain symptoms are associated with certain diseases such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis or chronic back pain.
Benefits of CBD oil on Anxiety and Depression
Anxiety and depression are two of the most commonly diagnosed mental disorders today. Typically, anxiety and depression are treated using prescription medications. The downside to using these medications is that while they may help alleviate symptoms, they come with their own array of side effects such as insomnia, vivid dreams, headaches, worsening of original symptoms and drowsiness. On top of that, any prescription medication used to treat these illnesses could contain benzodiazepines, which can contribute to substance abuse if used in the long-term.
This is where CBD oil can come in. CBD oil can be used as a therapeutic treatment in treating these mental disorders.
What is the science behind this claim?
First, there was a study conducted on 24 people in 2011 testing the effects of CBD on those with anxiety and depression. This study involved giving these 24 participants either a 600 mg dosage of CBD or a placebo before they had to participate in a public speaking test. By the end of this study, it was found that the people who took CBD has significantly less anxiety and discomfort compared to the group that was given the placebo.
Another study found that when children were given CBD, it could help treat insomnia and anxiety, especially in those that had suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.
With these studies, it was found that CBD oil could be used to help reduce anxiety and depression in both human and animal studies. While more research has to be conducted on the matter to be conclusive, it is clear CBD can be used to alleviate anxiety and depression symptoms.
CBD oil benefits for Cancer Related Symptoms
CBD can help alleviate symptoms related to cancer or cancer treatment.
What’s the science?
Well, one study published in 2010 found that when 177 people who were experiencing cancer-related pain were given CBD with the psychoactive component TC, they were given the pain relief they needed without the need for opioids.
Another study that was conducted and published in 2006, found that patients who were undergoing chemotherapy were able to experience relief from nausea and vomiting with the help of CBD. However, by the end of the study, it was also found that some of the drugs they were given to alleviate these symptoms, most turned out to be ineffective, hence why many ended up seeking other alternatives like CBD.
A third study published in 2010 found that when patients undergoing chemotherapy took a mouth spray containing CBD and THC , it helped to reduce any chemotherapy-related nausea or vomiting they were suffering from. This treatment helped to reduce these symptoms better than any standard treatment they took alone.
CBD oil benefits for Neuropathy
With CBD’s ability to interact with the body’s inner endocannabinoid system, it is believed that CBD could help benefit those who are suffering from neurological disorders. CBD is typically used to treat disorders such as epilepsy or multiple sclerosis. While the research being conducted on the correlation between CBD and seizures is still relatively new, whatever studies have been conducted have shown promising results.

One study that was conducted found that when people who suffer from epilepsy were given 0.9 to 2.3 gram doses of CBD per pound, their seizures were reduced by as much as 36.7%. Another study conducted on children suffering from Dravet syndrome and who were given CBD oil, found that their seizure activity was reduced compared to those who were given a placebo.
CBD Oil Cardiovascular Benefits
There is plenty of evidence to suggest that CBD can help benefit overall heart health, from lowering blood pressure, to preventing strokes and heart attacks to even improving the cardiac circulatory system.
Where is the proof?
To start off in a study published in 2017 found that a single dose of CBD oil could help reduce resting blood pressure in healthy individuals. In a separate study published in 2011 found that CBD oil had great therapeutic potential in helping to treat those suffering from complications associated with diabetes, reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, cardiac cell death, fibrosis and even helping to prevent other cardiovascular disorders.
CBD oil is used for a variety of common health issues, each of which has been thoroughly tested to see how CBD oil can help alleviate these conditions. Not only has CBD oil proven to be a therapeutic addition to most treatments, but it can be a godsend to those looking for natural alternatives.
