In CBD latest news, Kroger, one of the largest grocery retailers in the United States, will begin to sell CBD products in nearly 1,000 stores in over 17 states nationwide.
The company isn’t expected to sell any CBD infused groceries as of yet.
Kroger is expected to start selling CBD products derived from hemp and includes products such as:
Kroger joins other national retailers across the country that will begin selling hemp derived CBD products such as Walgreens, CVS, GNC and Vitamin Shoppe.
A spokeswoman for Kroger’s Louisville division Erin Grant said, “We will not be selling any ingestible products at this time. We plan on offering our customers a curated selection of topical CBD products that are infused with CBD derived from hemp.”
Erin went on to say, “CBD is a naturally occurring substance that has promising benefits and is permitted within state and federal regulation. The limited selection of hemp derived CBD topical products we plan on selling only comes from suppliers that have been reviewed for high quality and safety practices.”
Consumers nationwide have become increasingly curious about CBD in the past few years as CBD promises to relieve such issues such as anxiety and pain, though there isn’t any substantial scientific evidence to back up these claims. While CBD derived from the hemp plant is now legal thanks in part to the 2018 Farm Bill passed by Congress last year, companies are still hesitant to add CBD infused food to their product lines. Selling CBD infused beauty products is less risky, hence why Kroger and other retailers are starting to stock these products in their stores.
Selling CBD infused products in Kroger stores marks one of the many changes Kroger has made recently to reposition its business to ward off competitors such as Amazon and Walmart. As of late, Kroger has been pouring investments into digital sales and delivery services to stand against the competition. While these investments have been crucial, it has eaten into the company’s earnings in the process.
With CBD latest news of the retailer, Kroger will begin selling CBD products in stores located in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
