CBD, has been growing in popularity in recent years and you may even have come across it on the news, online or in-person. But what is CBD? And why is it so popular?
What is CBD?
CBD, also known as cannabidiol is a component of the cannabis or the hemp plant. CBD is a naturally occurring substance that is typically used in a variety of CBD products such as oils, topical applications or edibles.
CBD can come from two sources: cannabis or hemp. If CBD comes from the cannabis plant, it tends to contain the psychoactive component THC, associated with the high feeling usually attributed to marijuana use. If it comes from the hemp plant, it lacks this psychoactive component.
What is it used for?
Today, CBD is used for a variety of reasons, all ranging based on the desired effects a person is looking for. Some of the uses of CBD include:
- Helping to stop smoking
- Drug withdrawal
- Seizure treatment
- Treatment for anxiety
- Reducing effects of Alzheimer’s
- Antipsychotic treatment
- Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes therapeutic support
- Cancer support
While there still has to be extensive research on CBD to be conclusive of its effect, there is no doubt that it can help alleviate symptoms of certain diseases.
Be sure to consult your doctor prior to using CBD to ensure it can help give you the relief you need without interactions with current medication.
